Dear diary...homeschooling

Today starts week 3 of homeschooling! A few of my friends sent their children on today for their first day of school! And I thought about my dear friend Jessica and sarah who began their first day into their journey of homeschooling! My congrats to them and I hope their first day went well and they enjoyed it!

I kinda have a Charlotte Mason approach to homeschooling. LOTS and LOTS of reading!

And story-telling, story writing, poetry....We have been reading some of Lord Alfred Tennyson's poetry. We do a LOT of hands on learning...real life stuff.

Today we watched a utube on how to recycle t-shirts into skirts!

So the girls and I went through all the t-shirts we were putting up and decided to try our hand at it. They picked the colors and how they wanted them to look.

Tonight we had cooking lessons. The girls made spagetti!

Homeschooling for me consists of learning all day. From the time we rise and start devotions, to why we're eating what we're eating for breakfast, what we use to clean with, grating soap for homemade laundry detergent, counting change for the ice cream man at 3:oo, what do beetles eat, is a bird a mammal?, and extra fun stuff like sewing skirts out of our t-shirts and making dinner together.
I find that children are inquisitive by nature...if you listen to them, they'll tell you what they are interested in and what they want to learn...

I ask my kids what they want to learn in science..they eagerly tell me and we head to the library for books and videos! They love to learn, it's not forced and they soak it up and tell everyone else what they're learning in school.

I try to look at homeschooling as an adventure...seeing new places, meeting new people, experiencing new things, and enjoying life.
