Kitchen happenings....

Busy busy bees around here....

I have been making up tinctures for the winter...this one is a mixture of Horehound, Chamomile, Dandelion, Lavender, Cleavers, dried garlic, Catnip... I will use this one for colds and flu sypmptoms.

Tinctures are a wonderful thing to keep on hand and use at the first sign of a virus/infection.  They keep for several months and super easy to make.

After filling my jar with dried herbs I added 80% proof vodka and covered the herbs. Cover the jar tightly and leave in a dark cupboard for 2 to 4 weeks...depending if you are using fresh or drieds herbs(dried herbs are more concentrated) Give your jar a couple good shakes everyday.  When the process is complete I will fill my amber dropper bottles and keep in my pantry. You can also use apple cider vinegar instead of vodka...I use vodka so my tinctures will keep longer.

Also in my kitchen ......Kombucha!! O how I've miss thee....My sissie in Japan sent me some to start my own, as I have not been able to find any here in Germany. It's quite easy to make.
If you haven't heard of this incredible drink...it is a chinese tea kvass....a natural detox drink loaded with many health benefits from preventing cancer, arthritis, digestive issues and much much more.  I LOVE this stuff...so do my kids.  I drink a glass a night usually..as it is a relaxing drink for me and helps me sleep.  If you want to know more here is a link to a post I did awhile back .

And lastly.....Kefir!   Finally I managed to get ahold of some Kefir grains again and start my kefir....I love to make breakfasts smoothies with kefir....

I found a good youtube video here explaining all the benefits of Kefir.....amazing stuff! :)

And lastly.....My name is Aubrey and I'm a pintrest-holic! :)

Hey Dear one,
I am still alive, but just barely. Need some miracle tincture! We were unlucky enough to get a very nasty week long flu that everyone has taken turns getting making it over two weeks of sickness. Whew, it has been over 4 years since we have been hit like this.
Anyway, please pretty please re email me your snail mail address so I can send our new family picture your way. You can send it via my profile on my blog with its email button.
Now back to catching up on your lovely blog and all your cool traveling, as I repeat "don't be jealous, don't be jealous, don't be jealous". Sigh! Not working, still feeling some envy. :)
