The QUILT

This is the beginning of my "Army Cottage Quilt"...did you catch that...COTTAGE! Wherever I'm to live as an Army wife...it will be my "cottage". haha
I started this project while my husband was going through bootcamp! I took it to Family Day to show him! Now I'm handquilting my design while he goes through AIT school. Gives me something to do in the evenings.

The pattern is the disappearing nine patch.

The beginning steps: Cut your choice of square size...mine is 6 inch. Arrange in three squares for each row...making three rows...which makes..a NINE square block.

I love this collection of fabrics...my mom shared some that she is using in a lighter version with Faded Memories Fabric collection by MODA.

Here is the example of the NINE PATCH. After sewing your squares together...you will cut down the CENTER vertically and then once again horitzontally. Making FOUR distinct quilt blocks already with a main focus block, a small block and two side rectangles. See photos below showing you what develops. These are folded to show you the way it will look. Sorry..hadn't cut yet.

In the above photo is how it would look cut down the center first time. Now you will cut across the blue on blue fabric and the green check. Thus making the block below.

The photo below shows my first attempt at HAND QUILTING! VOILA... "H" as the initial of my last name. I did this free hand and with my eyes as the guide! Not bad for a beginner!

Hi Aubrey!! I guess a huge CONGRATULATIONS are in order for you and Michael! I'm so glad everything went well for graduation. I can't imagine how much you must miss him. I love your quilt. I just might have to take up a new hobby, or else just place orders with you and your mom! It will be so easy to check up on you now. Can I link your blog to mine? Talk to you later. Love, Carrie

Congratulations also on becoming an Army wife! I'm excited to hear about what the Lord has for you guys during his military career. It definitely has its ups and downs, but there's always something to praise God for. And I'm always here if you need an understanding ear ;)
