Counting my blessings…

I dream of a house with mud walls(can boogers stick to mud surfaces?)..concrete floors with a big drain in the middle of every room…bamboo mats for beds(cuz I could just hose those things down) plastic books in my book case…a concrete table with built in bowls and cup holder at each place setting…indoor/outdoor showers and last but not least, an outhouse!  Am I asking too much?

I wish for simpler days…and then I think what did women do with dirt floors back then? when their husband and children came in from the barn when it was pouring outside? oh the mud that must have been…or washing clothes down by the river when I can toss mine in the washing machine on my way to get that electric vacuum thingy to pick up the fuzz on my pretty carpets. Or the water they lugged up pail by pail from the well so they could take a bath every seven days, and I complain cuz I’m running low on bath salts, and the water is too hot in my big jacuzzi tub with 50 different jet sprays!

I suppose that no matter what time period you live in…there is something you complain about!  But in all that wishing and wanting for something else, be it simple or not, I’m reminded that there is always something to be thankful about…something to be thankful for when you realize someone else has it harder than you.  So when I’m wiping dirty fingerprints off the walls and mopping mud off my beautiful wood floors, I’m thankful I have a home, when I’m washing the mounds of clothes and dirty dishes, I ‘m thankful to have running water…you get the picture.

I don’t know about you, but I love reading National Geographic, articles about third-world countries, listening to missionaries, and reading true accounts of tragedy and suffering in other parts of the world….because I am constantly reminded about HOW MUCH I truly have and how much is so taken for granted.  One thing I am extremely intolerant of in my children in unthankfulness!  They learned at a very early age to be thankful for every meal, every gift, every friend, every blessing, everything!  Nothing is to be taken for granted.

What are you most thankful for today?
